Joy Covey, Amazon's First CFO, Steered an Emerging Giant's Torrid Growth

The frenzy of adulation and attention surrounding Amazon Chief Executive Jeff Bezos often obscures the contributions of other key executives at the company. One of those lesser-known leaders, Joy Covey, passed away yesterday at age 50 in a tragic bicycle accident on Skyline Boulevard in California’s San Mateo County. She was Amazon’s first chief financial officer and worked at the company between 1996 and 2000. Without her fierce intellect and focused energy, Amazon would not be the company it is today. White House journalist Helen Thomas remembered as a trailblazer

As news spread of Helen Thomas’ death Saturday, journalists, politicians and admirers paid homage to the trailblazing reporter who was a fixture at White House daily briefings for decades. "Michelle and I were saddened to learn of the passing of Helen Thomas. Helen was a true pioneer, opening doors and breaking down barriers for generations of women in journalism," President Barack Obama said in a statement. "She never failed to keep presidents - myself included - on their toes. Woman dies while riding Six Flags roller coaster

Investigators are trying to determine how a woman fell to her death from the tallest steel-hybrid coaster in the world Friday night at Six Flags Over Texas. The accident happened just after 6:30 p.m. Friday at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. Park spokeswoman Sharon Parker confirmed that a woman died while riding the Texas Giant roller coaster but did not specify how she was killed. However, witnesses told local media outlets that the woman fell. Carmen Brown of Arlington was waiting in line as the victim was being secured in for the ride. She told The Dallas Morning News the woman had expressed concern to a park employee that she was not secured correctly in her seat. Celebs, co-stars react to Cory Monteith's death

Cory Monteith, who rose to fame as a jock-turned-geek heartthrob in the Fox hit Glee, died Saturday at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in downtown Vancouver. He was 31.

Monteith voluntarily admitted himself into a rehab facility in March for substance addiction. In late April, the star completed the program and checked out. His last public outing was with his girlfriend and Glee co-star, Lea Michele, June 8 at the Chrysalis
