Queen Elizabeth II arrives at Buckingham Palace ahead of royal baby's birth

Queen Elizabeth II arrived by car at Buckingham Palace on Monday, as her grandson's wife is in labor with the next royal heir. The monarch, 87, was photographed being driven to the palace in an SUV. She'll become a great-grandmother for the third time when Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, welcome their first child. Kate, 31, was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital in London earlier Monday, with William by her side. Royal baby boy: World awaits first glimpse

Royal-watchers across the world waited for their first glimpse of Britain's new prince today, with Prince William and his wife, Kate, expected to leave a London hospital soon with their baby son. Kate, 31, gave birth to the couple's first child, who is third in line to the British throne, on Monday afternoon, ending weeks of feverish anticipation about the arrival. Royal aides said the couple and their newborn were all doing well and expected to leave St. Mary's Hospital early on Tuesday evening or possibly Wednesday morning. Kate Middleton embraces her royal roles

Autumn Brewington is editor of The Post’s op-ed page. She started and anchored The Post’s Royal Wedding Watch blog during the engagement of Prince William and Kate Middleton. As of Wednesday, 78-year-old Terry Hutt had slept outside St. Mary’s Hospital for seven nights. He has been photographed in his Union Jack T-shirt, shorts and hat, under his Union Jack umbrella, holding handmade signs. He is participating in the #GreatKateWait, anticipating the arrival of Britain’s next prince or princess (if more enthusiastically than most).
